Liebster Award: I’m in the Big League Now!

liebster award

There comes a time in every novice-bloggers WordPress career when they’re nominated for a Liebster Award.  It’s like getting an award in kindergarten:  everyone gets one, you know it’s coming eventually, but it still feels good when you get it.  Except with the Liebster Award you’re old enough to pretend that you’re Robert Downey Jnr getting a Grammy or whatever those things are called.  Does Robert Downey Jnr sing?  What’s the one for acting?

Also, I came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th AND 5th with this Liebster Award nomination!  I’m five times a winner and I’m calling bragging rights.

Thank you sweetlittlesomethingsnet for nominating me.  I genuinely love your blog.  When I read your posts I feel like I’m going on a journey with you into your childhood, your past, your thoughts and your emotions.  I can’t imagine how it feels to have gone through all you’ve gone through, but you’ve given me a glimpse with your writing.  Thank you for that.

Before we get to my answers for the questions asked, I’m going to nominate first.

(Cue drumroll….)

And the nominees for the Liebster Award are….

Sarah Elizabeth
I love Sarah’s humour and writing style.  When I discovered her page I stayed up late just to read her posts and forgot what time it was.
Hullabaloo and Susie Too
I only recently discovered Susie when she was featured on Freshly Pressed and subscribed because I identified with her post Hello, My Name Is…

Zombie Fights Shark
I got caught laughing uncontrollably at one of his posts because it was so stupid and I’ve been a regular stalker since.  He hasn’t let me down.

Your questions!

1.  Which stereotypical horror movie victim would you be and why?
2.  If you could have a theme song, what would it be?
3.  Which part of your personality is your favourite?
4.  What’s your earliest memory?
5.  If you were a pirate and your ship was attacked by giant squids, describe in 7000 words or less what you would do.
6.  Chinchilla?
7.  If you could get lost anywhere, on purpose, where would it be?
8.  If you could be the character out of any book, who would you be?
9.  A train leaves the station at 9:37am and is traveling at 81kph and 15 minutes later a moth is traveling at 90kph in the opposite direction, how many    apples does Jimmy have when they crash?
10.  If you died tomorrow and I had to clear your web browser, what incriminating things would I find?

Now, answers to my own questions:

If you could choose a different career, what would it be and why?
When I was 10 I wanted to be a cat but that didn’t work out.  Next in line is detective.  When I was 18 I moved to Sydney and enrolled in a private investigating course, which was the closest I could get to detective without joining the police force.  I loved the idea of stake-outs.  I’m a very patient person and I can entertain myself, so being stuck in a cramped van or car wouldn’t bother me.  I like the idea of stalking people.  I mean watching.  I liked the idea of the legal side of it, without having to become a lawyer.  I like figuring things out, connecting the dots and searching for things.

Unfortunately, that never worked out.  Five weeks after moving to Sydney I became homeless (only for a few days) before finding a way back home.  But it’s something that I still think about.

What activity brings you the most solace?
Early morning starts to roadtrips.  Waking up at 3am and driving through empty, dark, quiet streets that would usually be filled with traffic and feeling like the only person alive.

If you only had enough energy to type one sentence, what would it be?
Don’t panic, but I can see you.

What is the single best item you’ve ever eaten?
Mascarpone, an Italian cream cheese.  I don’t know what it is about it, but I get excited when it’s in a list of ingredients because it does something to me.  I swear it’s an aphrodisiac.

If you could get lost anywhere, on purpose, where would it be?
When I’m falling asleep, my happy place is imagining that I’ve been shipwrecked on a deserted island and I have to learn to use my own wits to survive all kinds of weather, snakes, quicksand (I even got out of bed to Google it so that I can be prepared) and anything else nature throws at me – and learning how to build, forage and hunt and to just be self sufficient.  Every now and then, sometime during my imagining, I all of a sudden develop some kind of super power, so that wouldn’t hurt either.

TL;DR deserted island.

What issue are you most passionate about bringing attention to?
This is a hard one because I have several, although I’m not an activist of anything.  I believe in a lot of things and I will fight for a lot of things too, even if my impact is zero and even if the impact is only with myself or in my life.

What age did you begin writing?
As soon as I learnt how to write.

Have you experienced a recent, “Ah ha moment” what was it?
Don’t let battery acid leak in your boot. In fact, don’t let the battery go into the boot in the first place.  And definitely don’t forget it’s there for two years.

What is your favorite flavor in a Neapolitan carton of ice cream?
Not fair!  I want to say all of them, because it’s true.  But if I can play favourites, I would lean towards chocolate.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?
How you view yourself now is not how you’ll view yourself when you look back in 20 years time: there’s really nothing wrong with you.

Of course there are rules…

If you are nominated for a Liebster Award and choose to accept, this is what you should do:
1. Post the award on your blog
2. Thank the blogger who presented the award to you and link back to their blog
3. Answer the questions given to you by the nominator
4. Nominate 5 to 10 bloggers  with less than 200 followers
5. Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer
6. Notify your nominees by posting on their blog

  1. Yeah I couldn’t agree more with the whole talking to a younger self thing. I wish I could make a high school version of me understand that none of this shit matters. That in less than 3 years you’ll forget half these people, and life is so much more interesting when you can go to the bathroom without permission.
